The first big Dota 2 tournament of the 2020 year kicks off on January 9, in Bukovel resort, Ukraine. The Bukovel Minor will be the third DPC event after the Summit 11 Minor and MDL Chengdu Major.
For the first time as tournament organizers, WePlay got a chance to organize a Dota Minor tournament that will be in the Dota Pro Circuit system. Bukovel Minor is the first tournament of the year. With a $300,000 prize pool, 660 Pro Circuit points and 8 high quality teams this is surely something that will be interesting to watch. Let’s keep in mind, that the winner of the tournament will also get a spot on the upcoming DreamLeague Leipzig Major.
The 8 teams are divided into 2 groups:
Nice diversity of teams and for a Minor, with pretty decent rosters of the teams. Two of those teams made roster changes just before Bukovel Minor. GeekFam parted ways with Ryoya and they’ve replaced him with Karl, another player from the Philippines. Another team that made a change to their roster is NiP. They removed their Slovakian carry Skiter from the roster and they added TANNER, British position 2 carry player. It will be interesting to see how those 2 players will fit in those two squads with such short notice.
Previous TI champions are here too. Nigma (ex Liquid) will play in this tournament. Even tho they are not in their previous form, they will be big contender here for the first place. W33 is their newest player in the lineup, and with him they still didn’t show top quality plays. Alliance beat them 2-0 easily in the DreamLeague Leipzig Major qualifiers, showing them that they need a lot of work to be consistent in this new patch and meta. Lately, Gambit is always top 3 contender on most tournaments, as they showed us at ESL One Hamburg and ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational that they can do top 3 finishes in tier 1 tournaments. Only chinese team is RNG without any decent results after TI9 era. Teams like Fighting Pandas, FURIA and Spirit can always surprise us. On paper they have good lineups, let’s see how they will do in first big tournament of the year. Let’s keep in mind, patch and meta are still new and teams are still adjusting.
Only 2 teams will advance out of the group into the playoffs. NiP and RNG are pretty big favourites here to take top 2 spots.
Opening matches in group A:
Group B is pretty interesting with Nigma and Gambit being the top favourites to take this group and to take the tournament overall.
Opening matches in group B:
Who will win Bukovel Minor? It’s pretty clear here. Skrilla odds say this:
We, as probably most people too, think Nigma is the biggest favourite to win Bukovel Minor. When you look up their history and their roster, they surely are. Gambit is in excellent form too lately, we wouldn’t count them down. If we must say, we think new champion will be Nigma / Gambit, but it’s still early in the season and patch, so be careful with your bets. Group stage will surely be interesting (BO3 series).
